DAA Parent Association

Welcome DAAPA Members!

Welcome to the GEMS Dubai American Academy community.  Simply by sending your child to Dubai American Academy you have become a member of the Dubai American Academy Parents Association (DAAPA).  We look forward to your involvement in our many wonderful DAAPA projects planned for your child throughout the year.

Mission Statement

The Dubai American Academy Parent Association supports the development of the unity among parents, faculty, administration, students and staff by cooperating to enrich the lives of the students and guide parents towards a better understanding of the aims, policies and philosophy of Dubai American Academy. The achievement of this mission relies upon parent cooperation and volunteerism.

DAAPA ... For Students by Parents

With your help, DAAPA is able to provide a wide variety of activities such as guest speakers, welcoming of new students, the International Food Festival, school dances, movie nights, homeroom parents for Primary and Elementary classes and so much more.  An inclusive network of parents, DAAPA's aim is to build and strengthen the community of parents and families within the school.  #TogetherWeCan.

How can you get involved?

DAAPA's success depends on parent involvement.  Being a DAAPA volunteer is the first step toward making new friends and learning about new cultures.  Along with the DAAPA EC, parent volunteers support and head numerous committees for our events.  These opportunities offer parents a chance to participate in an area of interest or expertise.  Volunteers are asked to become involved in decorating, organizing festivals, promotions and marketing, and hosting special events such as the Winter Carnival, just to name a few.  Through volunteering you will see how the success of our students enriches not only our lives but the overall school atmosphere--and you will play a role in our 'Culture of Kindness'.

If you wish to get involved, please send an email to [email protected].

  • Marie Collomp

President of DAAPA. She has three children at the school, in Grades 8, 9, and 11

"As part of DAAPA, we organise events for the kids, such as the Winter Carnival, the Autumn Festival, and the International Food Festival, where all the different cultures at the school come together. This year, we had more than 35 countries showing their folklore, culture, and food, so it was a great sharing experience. We don’t get involved in the academics, but we do get involved in the fun part by organising events, and hopefully we can do more for parents as well in the coming years."

  • Sophia Hatzis

Vice President of DAAPA. She has two boys at the school – a senior who recently graduated, and a seventh-grader

"We’ve been at the school for four years now. I’m a member of DAAPA and part of the Executive Committee, which is a small group of parents that creates an agenda and organises all the events for the students for the year ahead. It’s been fabulous. I’ve met amazing people who are truly engaged. Everyone has the school’s and the kids’ best interests at heart, so that’s what keeps us going."
