Dubai American Academy utilizes more than 700 computers including over 200 laptops for teacher and student use. Every instructional classroom is outfitted with a Promethean Board (interactive whiteboard), a ceiling-mounted projector, and a teacher laptop station. Ongoing professional development supports the use of all equipment by teachers and staff.
Students work with computers in one of our 10 computer labs (including Elementary Math and Science Discovery labs), hallway mini-labs, three mobile carts, or in their regular classrooms. All are supported by a state-of-the art local area network (LAN). A secure, wireless network runs parallel with our existing services.
Our Instructional Technology curriculum begins with the premise that technology integration is best used as a tool for support of our core curriculum. Beginning in Kindergarten, students create and communicate their ideas, analyze information in different formats, and display ethical and responsible use of technology.
Numerous exploratory, elective and programming classes in technology are offered and include such titles as Flash Animation, Robotics, Web Design, and I.B. Computer Science. All instructional technology courses are designed to help prepare students for the 21st century while technology integration in all subject areas provides a means for differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and critical thinking skills.
