GEMS Teacher completes 24-hour Bike ride to raise funds

  • GEMS teacher helps to rebuild school in Nairobi slum, Kibera
  • Project supported by GEMS International Schools and Varkey GEMS Foundation

Hundreds of students at Dubai American Academy (DAA) cheered today as Brendan Matheson, a P.E. teacher at DAA completed a remarkable 24 hour bike ride today.  His ride, meant to raise money and awareness to rebuild a school in the slum of Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya, is a part of a project supported by GEMS International Schools and the Varkey GEMS Foundation

Brendan began cycling on Wednesday, March 28that 12pm and finished at 12pm on Thursday, March 29th, during which he only stopped for five minutes every hour to hydrate himself, and for 30 minutes every five hours to eat and stretch.

Brendan said, “The support that I have been shown has been overwhelming and I am glad that we can make a difference to the school in Kibera.”
